Where To Celebrate the 4th of July in San Diego

Whether you’re in town on vacation or born and raised here, San Diego is one of the most incredible places to celebrate America’s Independence. If you’re wondering where to celebrate the 4th of July in San Diego, know there’s no shortage of places to go or things do to here. During this exciting holiday, the coastlines explode with colorful fireworks, and people rush to the beaches to find the best spots. The most notable show is The Big Bay Boom put on by the Port of San Diego.

The Big Bay Boom

If you want to check out San Diego’s biggest firework display, the Big Bay Boom should be on your itinerary! Fireworks launch from four barges in the San Diego Bay, allowing for plenty of great viewing areas across the city. If you want to check out the show but skip the crowds, you can even watch the fireworks on Fox 5. The show starts at 9 p.m., but you’ll want to make sure to have your spot claimed ahead of time.

Mission Bay

Mission Bay is a great place to start the day and then settle down on the beach and watch the show at the end of the night. The long waterfront is filled with picnic spots, volleyball courts, basketball courts, and other fun activities. If you have a big group, you’ll want to get there early to secure a spot. Traffic and parking become more challenging as the day goes on. Not long after the Big Bay Boom ends, Sea World kicks off their firework show! Mission Bay is the perfect place to relax and watch the two shows back-to-back.

Pacific Beach

During the day, Pacific Beach is bustling with daytime activity on the 4th. Garnet Avenue is lined with restaurants and bars for people to have fun before heading to the beach for the show. The fireworks shot off the Ocean Beach pier are clearly visible from Pb’s beaches. Whether you need that cup of coffee to get you energized in the morning or an ice-cold snack before the show, don’t hesitate to stop by Glazed Pb for your fix! As we all know, the fun doesn’t end in Pb after the fireworks, since all the bars and nightclubs are a short walk away.

Seaport Village

Seaport Village is another great spot to watch the Big Bay Boom firework show. It’s right along the harbor and makes a great place to watch fireworks explode over the sparkling water. The village is also the perfect place to spend the daytime before the show. There are a variety of restaurants, boutiques, bars, music, and accessible parking.

Coronado Beach

For a beachfront firework show in one of the most charming areas in San Diego, head to Coronado Island. The city’s firework show takes place over the Glorietta Bay along the spacious beach. Coronado also makes a great place to spend the day with a morning parade and afternoon concert.
